With almost half the January transfer window already gone, Celtic fans are starting to get impatient and understandably so. At this point, it is starting to feel like the club is incapable of completing deals. The only signing they have made so far this month is the loan addition of Julian Araujo until the end of the campaign. On the other hand, rumoured moves for Kyogo, Jocelin Ta Bi and Niko Sigur have all collapsed for a variety of reasons if reports are accurate.
Their most urgent need at the moment is probably signing a striker, if not a couple. Unfortunately, they have not been successful in that aim. A return for Kyogo had been touted, but has not materialised.
The Hoops cannot afford to dwell on that failure and must move on to other targets. And if reports coming out are anything to go by, they have done that.
As reported by the Daily Record, sources in France say that Celtic are locked in talks over a loan deal for Mohamed Bamba. It would include an option to buy.
Celtic open talks to sign 24-year-old striker after Kyogo move fails
Bamba is on the books at FC Lorient. His record with the French club will not fill Celtic fans with confidence that he is the right man for the job though. In 50 total appearances, he has managed to score 14 goals.
There have been sparks of quality here and there though. In the 23/24 campaign, he scored 8 goals and provided 3 assists in 16 Ligue 1 appearances.
Perhaps Celtic are hoping that is the version of Bamba they will get if they sign the 24-year-old Ivorian striker. It remains to be seen if they can get a deal done or not. But even if they do, one would hope that the Hoops bring in a proven goalscorer alongside the youngster. He is not the only forward they are being linked with at this point in time.
