Celtic look keen to get their business done early this summer. That is what most supporters would want as well, especially with the Hoops needing to qualify for the Champions League this time around rather than getting an automatic spot in the competition as the Premiership winners. The arrival of Kieran Tierney has already been made official.
The club hero has returned after spending six years at Arsenal. Not only are Celtic getting a Premier League-proven player in his prime but he also arrives as a free agent. Of course, his injury-prone nature remains a worry, and hopefully, a reliable backup option will be signed over the summer..
On the other hand, Celtic have now confirmed the signing of a second defender. But in this case, he is not expected to make his mark on the senior team anytime soon.
As reported by Celtic's official website, the club announced the signing of Isaac English from Greenock Morton. He has joined the Scottish champions on a three-year deal.
Celtic officially announce second signing of the summer
English was an absolute standout for Greenock Morton at the youth level. He was an integral part of their under-18 side that won the Club Academy Scotland Performance League last season. He also helped them make it to the final of the Club Academy Scotland cup
English will join the B Team and work with Stephen McManus. The hope is that the 17-year-old defender will develop his game and eventually end up making it to the first-team.
It is worth mentioning that this has been an area of worry for Celtic in recent years. Since Tierney, nobody has come up through the youth ranks and become a regular starter in the senior team. Could English be the one to break that streak? We will find out soon enough.
