Fans have been demanding change at Celtic for quite some time now. The club have seemed unwilling to make those said changes. But with the situation continuously getting worse at Parkhead, especially following the miscalculated appointment of Wilfried Nancy as new manager, something had to give.

The first of those changes has taken place. And it is not the sacking of the manager, like many fans had been hoping for, having seen him lose his first three games in charge of Celtic convincingly, a historically poor start.

As reported by the club's official website, non-executive Chairman Peter Lawwell has decided to step down from the Board from December 31, 2025. Brian Wilson will take up the role of interim Chairman until a permanent appointment is made.

Lawwell has spent over two decades at Celtic. Over that period of time, the club have enjoyed historic success domestically. That being said, he has not been a popular figure among a large section of the fanbase and many believe that the successes have come as a result of a lack of competition, rather than the club excelling itself. They point towards the decline in Europe as proof.

It remains to be seen if this ends up changing anything substantial at Celtic. But it is more than likely that things will continue in the same manner.

A lot more changes are required for there to be any real difference. Let's see if the fans will let up following Lawwell's decision to stand down from his role or continue to demand more such moves.

For the time being, the focus will be on the task at hand, which is getting back to form on the pitch. The rest can wait for a little while longer.
