Celtic massive blow as Juventus ready to sign player

The reality of modern football is that clubs like Celtic cannot compete financially with top, or even mid-table sides, from big European leagues. As a result, often, the Hoops have to get creative with their recruitment or settle for players who are not ready for the highest level. Unsurprisingly, we have seen very little progress from Scottish clubs on the continental stage.

Let's take a recent transfer rumour that cropped up over the last few days. Josh Doig of Sassuolo, and formerly of Hibernian, has been linked with a move to Celtic.

But almost immediately, such a move appears to have become unrealistic. As reported by Sport Mediaset (Ultime Juve), Croatian coach Igor Tudor has given the green light for two signings, Dan Ndoye from Bologna and Josh Doig from Sassuolo.

If Juventus do end up trying to sign Doig, it is hard to imagine that Celtic would have a genuine chance in the race for his signature. Let's see if the Italian giants actually make a move or not.

This is not the first time that Doig has been on Celtic's radar. The club were believed to be interested in signing him back in his Hibs days but he chose to make the move to Italy back then. Could he end up continuing that adventure with a Juventus switch?

We can expect to find out in the near future. But the rumour does not help Celtic's chances of signing Doig, that is for sure.

Celtic do need to bring in a left-back this summer though. Greg Taylor looks set to be on his way out, while Kieran Tierney has been brought in as a free agent. But considering his injury history, there does need to be a cover option at all times.
