This has been a window of change for Celtic. That is not always the case in the middle of the season but this time around, there have been marquee arrivals and exits. Of course, Kyogo Furuhashi brought an end to his phenomenal run in Glasgow by joining Rennes. Jota made the reverse journey, returning to Parkhead.
Kyogo is not the only high-profile name to have left Celtic either. Luis Palma, who was signed to be Jota's replacement in the summer of 2023, has left on loan to join Olympiacos. There is believed to be an option to buy included in that deal.
Palma's exit meant that the iconic number 7 jersey was made vacant. And Celtic have wasted no time in confirming that Jota will be the one donning the famous shirt moving forward.
Jota had worn number 17 during his first spell at Celtic. It was Giorgos Giakoumakis who had the number 7 shirt back then.
Celtic make Jota announcement after Luis Palma exit
Celtic made the announcement of the Portuguese winger being handed the number 7 with a video. It was accompanied by the famous 'Jota on the Wing' song, which had become incredibly popular during his first run at the club.
Of course, it is not the jersey number that makes a player special but the other way around. One can only hope that Jota's second spell at Celtic proves to be just as successful as the first one.
He is someone with a point to prove. Jota had left Celtic in a big £25 million move but quickly found out that the grass was not greener on the other side.
Jota's time at Al-Ittihad proved to be a major disappointment. The one at Rennes was not much better. Now back at Celtic, he needs to show that he is still a fantastic winger in the right team.
