Kelechi Iheanacho has become the latest striker to be linked with a move to Celtic late in this winter transfer window following Kyogo Furuhashi's move to Rennes, which left a gap up top for the Hoops. Currently at Sevilla, he has faced issues at the Spanish club and an exit is not outside the realm of possibility at this point.

Someone like Iheanacho would be a big name addition to this Celtic squad. But would he be the right fit? That is the question.

Iheanacho has played for clubs like Manchester City and Leicester City through the course of his career. Also, at 28 years of age, he should have plenty of football left in the tank and these might be his prime years on the pitch.

Unfortunately, Celtic fans who were hoping for Iheanacho's arrival have been handed some bad news. It looks like the potential move has stalled despite talks being held and Middlesbrough have emerged as the new favourites to sign him.

As reported by Anthony Joseph, Middlesbrough are believed to be leading the race to sign Iheanacho. Celtic held talks with the La Liga side over a possible loan with option-to-buy deal for him, but there was no agreement and discussions have not developed further today.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Iheanacho. But it does not look like we will be seeing him in a Celtic jersey anytime soon.

One can only hope that Celtic are able to sign a new striker before the end of the winter transfer window. They have been linked with other forwards as well but with merely days left, it remains to be seen if they ultimately have enough time to get a deal over the line.
