If there is one position that Celtic need to urgently strengthen this winter, it is up front. The club lack a reliable goalscorer right now. If they can fill that void, the Hoops might be back to their best. Creating chances has not been a problem for them in most games. It has been putting those away. The likes of Johnny Kenny and Shin Yamada don't seem to be up to the task of leading the line for the Glasgow giants while Daizen Maeda has lost his golden touch in front of goal.

Injuries have not helped them either. Kelechi Iheanacho has spent most of his time out on the sidelines. And just when Callum Osmand was starting to impress, he also picked up a long-term injury and won't be back anytime soon.

So, the best-case scenario would be Celtic signing a consistent goalscorer this month. Interestingly, they seem to have someone on their radar who has already scored 25 goals this season. That kind of output would be a dream for Martin O'Neill right now.

As reported by Mark Hendry (via CeltsAreHere), Celtic have expressed interest in NK Celje striker Franko Kovacevic. The Hoops are believed to have made contact with the Slovenian side to inquire about the conditions of a potential deal.

Kovacevic is 26 years old but he has already had a bit of a journeyman career, playing for a number of clubs, including stints in Asia and North America. It is at NK Celje that he is starting to find his biggest success.

Kovacevic has scored 25 goals in 28 appearances this season. So, it is not hard to see why Celtic might be interested in signing him, although there will be question marks over whether that output will convert to the Scottish Premiership.

He is not the only striker Celtic have been linked with recently either. David Datro Fofana of Chelsea, Mohamed Bamba of FC Lorient and Andrej Ilic of Union Berlin are other strikers who seem to be on the club's radar as they look to strengthen up top.
