It is very much an open secret that Celtic are trying to sign a striker in this winter transfer window. They tried, and failed, to bring back Kyogo if reports are on the mark. Other than that, they have been linked with a few other strikers, like Andrej Ilic of Union Berlin and Mohamed Bamba of FC Lorient. But now, it looks like a Chelsea player is on their radar as well.
Let's turn back the clock a few months. It is late in the summer transfer window. Celtic have allowed Adam Idah to leave for Swansea City, and then failed to get a deal done for Kasper Dolberg, who has decided to join Ajax instead.
Naturally, the Hoops were scrambling for options. One player they were linked with back then was David Datro Fofana of Chelsea. But once again, that did not materialise. The player ended up on loan at Turkish side Fatih Karagumruk instead. Now, after several months, it looks like Celtic might be ready to revisit that interest as they are still in need of a striker.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea and Datro Fofana are working on a permanent exit this window. Celtic, Royal Antwerp and Derby County have all expressed interest over a potential deal.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Celtic want to sign Chelsea player
To be fair, Datro Fofana has done a decent job away on loan in Turkey. He has scored 7 goals in 14 appearances for Fatih, scoring every 139 minutes.
With the amount of chances that Celtic are creating right now, which are not being converted by their current options, there is a good possibility that a good finisher could take Martin O'Neill's side to the next level. Is Datro Fofana the solution to their problems?
He might be, if everything falls into place. But all things considered, it would be best if the Hoops bring in a couple of strikers.
