It will be very interesting to see what the mood of the fans is coming out of this international break. The Celtic Fans Collective's meeting with the board has come and gone, and nothing productive came out of it. If anything, the supporters might be even more dissatisfied now than they were going into it.
Of course, this dissatisfaction was very clear in Celtic's home opener in the Europa League this season against SC Braga. The Hoops ended up losing the match.
The board might have been even more worried about the empty seats in the stadium though. There has been little to no hype around this European campaign, and only 46,000-odd fans attended the game.
When was the last time we had 14,000 empty seats at Celtic Park for a European game? Just for comparison, there were 54,000-plus fans in attendance when the club welcomed Real Betis in the Europa League in a dead rubber game in Ange Postecoglou's first season as the Hoops' manager, when it had already become clear that they were not making it out of the group. That's how bad things have gotten.
Celtic make announcement after seeing fears come true
It is very clear that the club are struggling to move tickets at the moment. And that has resulted in them putting out one announcement after another.
The club put out an official ticketing announcement regarding the upcoming Europa League game against Sturm Graz as well, complete with another reminder about how there is no place like Paradise on European nights. It will be very interesting to see what the attendance looks like this time around.
But to be very honest, we would be very surprised if it is any better than the one against Braga. If anything, the expectation is that it will be even lower this time around. Sturm Graz are not as big of a name on the European stage, this is not the opener either, and on top of that, there is the aftermath of the disappointing meeting that took place recently.
