Celtic's goalkeeper options are becoming clearer with Martin O'Neill still looking for a new starter between the sticks. Viljami Sinisalo is doing a good job currently, filling in following the departure of Kasper Schmeichel, but O'Neill is still said to want a new starter.
Like much of the Bhoys' transfer business this summer, a goalkeeper deal has been hard to do, although it doesn't look to have been a particular priority for the club up to this point.
Celtic's Nick Pope option
According to the Daily Mail, Celtic are tracking Newcastle United keeper Nick Pope, who could well be on the move this summer having been replaced as number one.
New Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle has said: "I had a talk with Nick and he knows exactly the situation right now.
"We need to deal with it in the best possible way. But I always appreciate the players and the human beings behind them, so this is the most important thing."
With Pope now 34 years of age and no longer wanted at St James' Park, it's likely he will be available on the cheap, or at least the relative cheap. Experienced goalkeepers have served Celtic well in recent years, between Schmeichel and Joe Hart, so the Bhoys may try it again with Pope.
Horkas remains an option
Las Palmas goalkeeper Dinko Horkas has been heavily linked this summer. The Spanish club initially said Celtic bid €4million, which was €1million short of the asking price, and they were also unhappy with the structure of the offer.
But reports from Spain are now claiming the Canaries side are saying the bid received was not from Celtic. Nonetheless, Horkas, who helped Las Palmas to the Segunda Division playoffs last season, remains available for a pretty affordable fee. He will cost more than Pope, but he is 27 years of age, so there is more tread on the tyres, so to speak.
