Celtic only made one permanent signing in the winter transfer window, bringing back Jota from Rennes. That is proving to be a good move already as the Portuguese has been contributing with both goals and assists despite not being up to speed after not playing much football in the past 18 months.
Of course, Celtic did try to sign other players as well. As it turns out, they might have been trying to strengthen their midfield ranks following the loan exit of Odin Thiago Holm.
It looks like the club made an offer for Lennon Miller of Motherwell. But it did not lead to a move to Parkhead for the talented Scottish midfielder, who many consider to be the brightest talent in the country right now.
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Stephen McGinn said on Go Radio:
"The market Celtic are dealing with, they obviously made an offer for Lennon Miller in January, so you aren’t getting ready-made (players).
“You aren’t able to sign ready-made. You look at Adam Idah against Bayern Munich. Adam Idah, has lots of potential, he has had some good games and some not-so-good games.
“It probably wasn’t his best night against Bayern because you are trying to play in the Champions League with guys you can’t afford ready-made Champions League players."
Celtic made failed offer for midfielder in January
Celtic have been linked with a move for Miller for quite some time now. It is not hard to understand why the Hoops seemingly hold an interest in the Motherwell wonderkid.
He has already captained his team on a few occasions and impressed against both Celtic and the Rangers. There is no doubt about his talent, that is for sure.
For now, it looks like Miller is set to remain at Motherwell. There is expected to be a lot more interest in his signature in the summer though. Do not be surprised if some of the top clubs from the Premier League come calling soon and that is not good news for Celtic or their hopes of being able to sign the midfielder.
This winter might have been their best chance of swooping in early and getting a deal done for Miller. Now, the train might have passed and a summer transfer might be out of their reach.
