Like every summer transfer window, there will be a lot of things at play at once when it comes to a club like Celtic. The fans are used to seeing the Hoops' best performers leave every year. So, it is no surprise that the likes of Daizen Maeda, Nicolas Kuhn, Reo Hatate and more are being linked with moves away from Parkhead. That is not the only way that they can end up bringing in money though.
Another way is for former players to move and Celtic to receive a windfall due to sell-on clauses they hold. The perfect example of that is Jeremie Frimpong.
Signed in the summer of 2019 as a Manchester City academy, not many expected Frimpong to make. major impact at Celtic anytime soon. Months later, he was a first-team starter for the Hoops and played a key role in a treble.
Soon afterwards, Frimpong would end up joining Bayer Leverkusen. There, he has established himself as one of the best full-backs in European football and now appears to be on the verge of a big-money transfer that will benefit Celtic as well.
Celtic will love Fabrizio Romano's blockbuster transfer news
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are well informed on the Frimpong situation and how the instalments are defined for his €35/40m release clause. He remains one of the main names on the shortlist to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold with the Dutchman expected to be eventually keen on the move.
Frimpong is absolutely brilliant going forward as well. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 29 goals and provided 44 assists in 189 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen.
Those are unbelievable numbers for a full-back or wing-back and it is not hard to see why Liverpool might be keen to sign him to replace Trent, another elite talent going forward. Naturally, Celtic will be keeping a close eye on the entire situation as it could land them a major windfall and boost their transfer budget significantly this summer. Their sell-on clause is rumoured to be around 30 percent.
