Who will be the next Rangers manager? That is a question that will interest Celtic fans as well, especially with the Ibrox club on the verge of a takeover by an American consortium consisting of 49er Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh. Many of their fans seem to believe that this will be the solution to all of their problems. It remains to be seen if that is the case in reality as well.
It would be safe to say that there is quite a gap right now between the two Glasgow teams. Celtic seem to win trebles for fun. On the other hand, more often than not, we have seen the Rangers finish the campaign without a single piece of silverware.
That is not a simple gap to bridge, no matter who the Rangers' new investors are. It is worth remembering that all clubs need to work under a financial framework. That will be the case with the Ibrox club as well.
That makes their next managerial appointment even more important. Barry Ferguson is in interim charge right now but it is hard to imagine that he will be handed the job on a permanent basis, despite winning against Celtic at Parkhead.
Celtic fans laugh as 49ers make next Rangers manager decision
A lot of the Rangers' supporters seem to believe that it is time to bring back Gerrard to Ibrox. But it looks like their new owners are not planning to do that.
As reported by Rangers Review, it is understood that the appointment is more likely to be a manager with no previous involvement with the Ibrox club. The new era will be a new beginning for them.
Automatically, that means Gerrard is unlikely to be the new manager of the Rangers. For months, he has been viewed as the favourite for the Ibrox job.
To be honest, a lot of Celtic fans might have wanted that as well. When Gerrard left Glasgow, it felt like he had the upper hand, having won the league the previous season. One would imagine that the Hoops would like to rewrite that ending to his story at Ibrox. But unfortunately, it seems that that won't be the case.
Of course, that raises another question. If not Gerrard, then who? Sean Dyche and Marco Rose are two other managers who have been linked with the club in recent weeks and they have no previous connections with Rangers. In fact, you can easily find pictures of the latter wearing a Celtic hat and scarf.
