Yesterday, there was speculation about Celtic's home kit for next season after an image started to do the rounds on social media featuring a 'tartan' style jersey. Today, there is something more concrete about the kits moving forward and it has come from the club itself. A long-awaited announcement has finally been made.

On their official website, Celtic announced an extension of the partnership with adidas as official kit supplier. Michael Nicholson described it as 'the biggest official kit supplier partnership in the club’s history'.

Of course, this extension had been expected for a while. Some further details of the deal have emerged as well. As reported by The Scottish Sun, it will comfortably outdo the previous numbers and will last longer than the next five years.

One thing that was not cleared during the announcement though was the category that Celtic would fall under in this new deal. There had been some rumours in recent months that they were set to be handed 'elite' status by the suppliers.

Clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Juventus fall under the 'elite' category. It means that they have special kits available every year and they are more easily available all over the globe, something that is not the case with Celtic right now.

It remains to be seen how things play out in this regard. Perhaps that is not the kind of thing that was going to be put into the official announcement.

For Celtic, this is a positive move, no matter which way you look at it. Overall, the reception to the kits that Adidas have produced over the years has been good from the fans, although there have been some misses along the way. And it looks like it will come with a higher fee as well.
