Brendan Rodgers' comments in recent days have pretty clearly suggested that he would like Celtic to sign another striker before this summer transfer window closes. It is not hard to see why that might be the case. Adam Idah has been struggling to establish himself as the first-choice number 9. On the other hand, Daizen Maeda is back on the wing, due to the injury to Jota and the departure of Nicolas Kuhn.
That leaves Celtic short on options in both those areas. One can only hope that a quality addition is made this summer. Shin Yamada and Callum Osmand have been brought in, but neither is expected to be ready to start. At least they are yet to prove it.
Another striker Celtic have been linked with in recent times is Giuseppe Ambrosino of Napoli. He was a standout for the Italy U21 side recently and has been in the headlines. It is not only the Hoops who want to sign him this summer.
For a long while, it had looked like Ambrosino was certain to leave Napoli this summer. But now, it looks like he might have made a U-turn.
Celtic-linked striker makes last-minute transfer U-turn
As reported by Corriere del Mezzogiorno (via Daily Record), Ambrosino is determined to stay put and compete for his future at Napoli. He is ready to contend with Romelu Lukaku and Lorenzo Lucca.
So, it looks like Ambrosino might not be as keen on a move as once thought. Of course, that reduces Celtic's chances of signing him this summer. Let's see what eventually ends up happening with the Italian striker.
Celtic need to move their eyes elsewhere though. They do not have the time to let things drag on for long. If a player is uncertain about what he wants to do, this might not be the summer for the Hoops to keep waiting on his decision.
It is also worth pointing out that other clubs were ahead of them in the race for the Italian striker, even before this update. In fact, Cremonese were confident of securing a loan deal with an option to buy, but that now appears to be off the table for the time being.
