Just a few days back, Greg Taylor was being suggested as a potential option for Rangers with his contract running down. On paper, such a move would make sense, but realistically, there is very little chance of it happening. On the contrary, it looks like Celtic are now making a late push to agree a contract extension with the Scottish left-back despite the impending arrival of Kieran Tierney from Arsenal.
The Taylor to Rangers link always seemed far-fetched. But now, an even more out-of-the-box idea has been floated in the media. One that has very little chance of happening, not just because of the rivalry between the two teams but also because of what happened in the last Glasgow Derby.
There is a possibility that Nicolas Kuhn could end up leaving Celtic in the summer. On the other hand, it is believed that the club could be looking to sign an additional winger in the next window.
It is in this respect that Vaclav Cerny has been suggested as a potential option, who would make Celtic better. Fraser Clarke of the Daily Record said:
"Is it wrong that the first thing that popped into my head when you were talking about getting an additional winger, was Vaclav Cerny?
We've spoken about Greg Taylor being linked with Rangers. Could Cerny be tempted to go the other way? I think he'd improve Celtic and be a good signing for them. There would be no controversy I'm sure, it would be no bother!"
Celtic linked with summer move for Rangers player out of the blue
Let's just begin this by pointing out that there is very little chance that such a move would happen. Admittedly, Cerny has had a good season with the Rangers. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 17 goals and provided 7 assists in the 24/25 campaign.
But crossing the Glasgow divide is already close to impossible. Then you take into account that Cerny was the one who appeared to splash water from his bottle onto Celtic supporters in the previous Glasgow Derby.
Do not expect to see Cerny in a Celtic jersey. That is a hypothetical suggestion that has very little to no chance of becoming a reality.
That being said, Celtic could definitely do with another winger in the summer. They have been linked with quite a few names in that regard as well. Sondre Orjeseater of Sarpsborg 08 is believed to be on the radar and the Hoops tried to sign him in the winter. Michel-Ange Balikwisha confirmed that the Scottish champions had shown interest in signing him a year ago. And they are believed to have made contact for Jesse Derry of Crystal Palace recently as well.
