Celtic need to add to their ranks up front. That has been pretty clear for a while now after the Hoops parted ways with their first-choice number 9, Kyogo, in the winter and did not even bring in a replacement. Admittedly, Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah did a good job last season, combining for 53 goals in total. But a third genuine option is needed.
It is believed that the Hoops are close to signing Callum Osmand from Fulham. But one cannot forget that he has never played senior level football.
Is that someone that Celtic can rely on to be the third striker from the get-go? Johnny Kenny clearly did not make much of an impact during his time at Parkhead.
Amid all this, the club have been linked with a move for a Japanese striker almost out of nowhere. As reported by The Scottish Sun, Celtic could make a move for £1.5 million striker Shin Yamada, who they have scouted.
Celtic linked with move for Japanese striker out of nowhere
Yamada currently plays for Reo Hatate's former side, Kawasaki Frontale. It remains to be seen if Celtic will solidify this interest and actually make a move to sign him this summer.
The most interesting thing about this link is the fact that Yamada does not have an impressive goalscoring record. So, it is hard to imagine that he will come in and compete for a starting spot at Celtic. That being said, nobody should be written off before showing what they are capable of.
For now, Yamada goes down as another striker Celtic are being linked with. The Hoops do have a great record in recent times when it comes to recruiting talent from J-League though. Maeda, Kyogo and Hatate proved to be spectacular signings while Tomoki Iwata was solid when given a chance and has proven his quality since joining Birmingham City.
