Celtic have gotten their fourth transfer of the summer over the line. After Kieran Tierney, Isaac English and Ross Doohan, the Scottish champions have not made another signing as they look to strengthen Brendan Rodgers' squad further ahead of the 24/25 campaign. And it is one that will make the supporters.
Celtic have been looking to add to their options on the flank and also in the number 10 position, having lacked a consistent goalscorer there last season. It looks like they have managed to sign a player who can both those roles.
Yes, the player we are talking about is none other than Benjamin Nygren. A move was believed to be getting close for a while. Now, it is over the line.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Nygren to Celtic is a here we go. It is a done deal with Nordsjaelland for a €1.5m transfer fee. The contract is until June 2029 plus an option until 2030.
Fabrizio Romano confirms fourth summer signing for Celtic
Nygren scored 16 goals in 32 appearances last season. So, he can definitely add goals to this Celtic team, if he is played in the number 10 role. There are rumours that that is where Rodgers is aiming to play him.
On the other hand, there might be a lot of scope to play him on the flanks as well. Nicolas Kuhn has been linked with a move away, with top teams like RB Leipzig and Newcastle United believed to be keeping an eye out on his signature. Also, Jota suffered a long-term injury not too long ago and might not play in 2025 again.
So, there might be a lot of voids for someone like Nygren to fill. This might prove to be an excellent signing for Celtic in both the short and the long term. Let's hope that everything works out well.
Of course, when talking about Nygren, one needs to mention his recent success at the international level as well. He has scored two goals in just four appearances for the Swedish national team.
It would be a mistake to overlook the failures either though. For Nygren, they came at Genk. Very early on in his career, he was signed by the Belgian club in a record €5m deal. At that point, he had only made 15 senior appearances and was not ready for that step up. He would soon find himself on loan with Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie before ending up at Nordsjaelland on a permanent basis
