With merely days left before the summer transfer window closes, Celtic have been left scrambling to make signings before then. Unfortunately, this has been a familiar picture at Parkhead over the years. One can only wonder why the required additions were not made before their Champions League qualifier play-off against Kairat Almaty.
Yes, the Bhoys did not do well enough to go through. But the biggest reason behind their exit is their lack of transfer activity off the pitch.
Now that that opportunity has escaped Celtic, we suddenly see plenty of new names crop up in the Celtic rumour mill. One of them is a pretty unexpected one, especially as it is believed that the Hoops are closing in on a loan deal for Marcelo Saracchi of Boca Juniors.
It looks like an AS Roma left-back is also on their radar. As reported by Jeroen Kapteijns, Anass Salah-Eddine is drawing the interest of PSV, FC Porto, Lille LOSC, Nottingham Forest, Celtic, Torino, and Werder Bremen.
Celtic linked with late summer move for AS Roma player
If the move for Saracchi does end up going through, there is little to no chance that Celtic will try to sign another left-back. Of course, that is not official yet, so we can only wait and watch how things play out in that regard.
When it comes to the AS Roma left-back, it is very possible that Celtic might have been interested in him this summer. He is someone who joined the Italian giants just last winter but has failed to get much playing time since then, and could be looking to move on already as a result.
That does sound like the profile that Celtic would be eyeing. But at this point, there does not seem to be much chance that a move for Salah-Eddine would be made this summer, unless something unexpected happens in the Sarachchi saga.
