Some players seem to keep appearing in rumours of moves to Celtic. That applies even if they only moved to a new club last summer. Often, there is good reason for further links, as situations can and do change quickly. Could the Hoops reignite their interest in a highly-rated international striker in this window?

Bojan Miovski was regularly talked about as a Celtic target over recent seasons. He had a habit of playing well and scoring for Aberdeen in games when the two sides met. He was pretty prolific for the Dons with 44 goals in 98 appearances.

With such a good strike rate, it’s no wonder he was sought after last summer. Celtic were one of the clubs most heavily linked with a move for Miovski.

Ultimately, he moved to Girona FC for £6.8 million. It hasn’t been a good season at his new club though. They had to struggle to avoid relegation and did so successfully, by a single point. Miovski scored just four times in 22 appearances for the Spanish side. Nowhere near as impressive as his past record and surely well below the La Liga club's expectations.

Now Girona are reviewing their finances and working hard to comply with the strict rules on spending and salaries in Spain. It’s going to see them have to part ways with a few players to cut their wage bill. Miovski looks likely to be one of those and the club accepts they may have to take a hit on the fees they paid to move some players on.

It all leads back to potential interest from Brendan Rodgers and the recruitment team as they look to strengthen for next season. Given Miovski’s goal record at Aberdeen, he could perhaps do well with the extra chances he'd likely get at Celtic. But the style of play is different and the competition for places is much greater.

Rodgers may not yet have closed the door on another centre forward, while we may yet see Johnny Kenny exit, it also seems that the signing of Callum Osmand from Fulham is ready to be announced. With Adam Idah and Daizen Maeda, there are plenty of options already in place.

Even at a cut-price deal, Miovski’s time for real Celtic interest may have gone now. There may be scope for another centre forward to arrive but if that happens it would surely be for extra depth, a fourth in the pecking order to develop but with limited game time. That's not what you spend several million pounds on.
