Defensive midfield is a position where Celtic are believed to be looking to strengthen in this summer transfer window. We have seen several such midfielders being linked with the club in recent months. A few names that come to mind immediately are Elvis Rexhbecaj and Kalidou Sidibe. Now, it looks like a Frenchman is also on their radar.
Montpellier finished bottom of the Ligue 1 table and have been relegated. That means that plenty of their players could look to change clubs this summer rather than stay on and play in the French second division.
As reported by The Celtic Star, the Hoops are rumoured to be in the for Montpellier's defensive midfielder Joris Chotard. He is keen to move on following his team's relegation and the Scottish champions are said to be tentatively interested in signing him.
Chotard might be 23 years of age but in terms of experience, he might already be a veteran. He has made almost 200 appearances for Montpellier while playing top division football in France.
Celtic linked with 23-year-old French international
Chotard has also represented France at multiple youth international levels. He was also part of the team that won silve at the 2024 Olympics.
Of course, if Chotard did end up leaving Montpellier, there is going to be no lack of interest in his signature. If Celtic are able to sign him, it would have to be considered a major coup. But considering the level of competition they are likely to face, any such move is not going to be easy to pull off.
Let's see jow things play out over the coming weeks and months. But do not be surprised if you hear that Celtic have tried to sign Chotard from Montpellier at some point in the summer transfer window. Hopefully, they can sign him.
Interestingly, Chotard is teammates with Christopher Jullien at Montpellier. Hopefully, the centre-back has been telling stories about Celtic in the dressing room all this time.
