Celtic are in a strong position right now. They are comfortably leading the Premiership title race and will also look to win the first piece of silverware of this season when they take on the Rangers in the final of the Scottish League Cup this weekend. The Hoops are in a decent situation in the Champions League as well as they look to make the playoffs in the new-look competition format.
The quest to get better never stops at clubs like Celtic though. As a result, they have been linked with quite a few players heading into the January transfer window.
One of them is Carney Chukwuemeka of Chelsea. Signed from Aston Villa, he was considered one of their brightest prospects not too long ago but has struggled for playing time since the appointment of Enzo Maresca.
It is not hard to understand why either. Chelsea have players like Cole Palmer, Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku in that area of the pitch. So, Chukwuemeka is not expected to get significant playing time and that could lead to an exit.
Celtic leading AC Milan in race to sign Chelsea player
As reported by calciomercato, AC Milan have rekindled their interest in Chukwuemeka. But Celtic have gained pole position at the moment.
It is unlikely that Celtic would be able to sign Chukwuemeka permanently. It is far more likely that Chelsea would look to send him out on loan in January in order to increase his transfer value before a permanent move in the summer.
Celtic do have a pretty strong midfield right now though. They have players like Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Arne Engels, Paulo Bernardo and Luke McCowan. All of them could start on any given day. So, would it make sense for them to sign Chukwuemeka in the January window, even if on loan basis?
