Celtic are closing in on another treble this season. If successful, it will be a record third for Brendan Rodgers. Also, with a Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen coming up, it is hard not to reminisce about the first one. The 2016/17 campaign, when the Hoops went without defeat in domestic competitions and won the same fixture against the Dons to seal that feat.

One player who was part of that Invincible team was Christian Gamboa. It was the Costa Rican full-back's most active season at Celtic as he made 21 appearances across all competitions.

Ultimately, Gamboa would go on to spend three years at Celtic but was never really able to establish himself as a starter, as he made 31 appearances in total. He would eventually leave for VfL Bochum in 2019 and has been there since.

Now, as reported by The Scottish Sun, Gamboa has announced his retirement after six years with VfL Bochum. The club's fans said goodbye to him by unfurling a banner with the slogan ‘thank you brother’ and his picture.

When Gamboa arrived at VfL Bochum, they were in the second division of German football. They were promoted to the Bundesliga a couple of seasons after that and remained in the top flight for the next four seasons. Unfortunately, they finished bottom of the table this time and have been relegated.

It looks like Gamboa has been preparing for life after the game already. He has a qualification in football business from the Johan Cruyff Institute and suggested not too long ago that his future could be in scouting.

We would like to thank Gamboa for his three years as a Celtic player and wish him all the best in whatever the next step turns out to be in his career. Hopefully, he has a happy retirement.
