Over the years, Celtic have been home to plenty of great players, a lot of whom have gone on to achieve success with the club and then after leaving Parkhead as well. It is always interesting to follow their careers, on the pitch and then when they step into the dugout in coaching roles. And one club hero looks to be in contention for a return to Scottish football in a managerial capacity.

Celtic have struggled in recent years to promote their academy graduates to the senior team. They had no such issues a couple of decades ago though.

One who successfully made the jump from the youth ranks to the senior team was Shaun Maloney. Over his two spells at Celtic Park, he won eight trophies, including five league titles. He also won the FA Cup while at Wigan Athletic.

Since then, Maloney has stepped into management. He has already had a stint in Scotland, a four-month spell at Hibernian that was a failure. He followed that up with a two-year run with Wigan Athletic but is now without a job and in contention for a return to Scotland.

Dundee FC made the decision to sack Tony Docherty, despite avoiding relegation. And it looks like Maloney is in frame for the vacent job.

As reported by The Herald, Maloney has emerged as the frontrunner for the now vacant Dundee FC role. He is interested in the position and would welcome the opportunity to discuss the role.

It is worth pointing out that no talks have taken place yet between the two parties over the role. But judging from the rumours, it looks like Maloney is the frontrunner for the job. Let's see how things play out over the coming days.
