Celtic are now said to be interested in another winger who could prove to be an alternative option to Haissem Hassan. The Bhoys are said to be very interested in signing Hassan from Real Oviedo after his impressive World Cup with Egypt, but an agreement has not been forthcoming.
Oviedo are expected to ask for at least ÂŁ7million, especially after the World Cup Hassan enjoyed, and it remains to be seen whether Celtic will go that high.
In the meantime, the Hoops are said to be scoping out other potential targets, and it's reported they like the look of a Serie A winger.
Celtic linked with Cancellieri
According to reliable West Ham source ExWestHamExmployee, the Hoops are now showing interest in Lazio winger Matteo Cancellieri, who has been linked with West Ham this summer.
The Hammers are hoping to keep hold of Jarrod Bowen, though, and if they can, they are unlikely to sign a winger unless a very good deal becomes available.
Celtic do need a winger, and while Hassan looks to be their priority, they will need another option in case they cannot agree a deal. Cancellieri is out of contract with Lazio next year, so he could be available on a reasonable fee. He is currently valued at around ÂŁ6million, but it's unclear what Lazio would ask for given his contract situation.
Cancellieri is not the most productive winger, scoring 12 and assisting five in 125 Serie A appearances, but many of those appearances came as a youngster, and he is only 24 years of age. The wideman came up through the AS Roma academy before going out on loan and ultimately finding a new home in Lazio in 2023 following a spell with Hellas Verona, where he actually turned pro.
The level of Celtic's interest is not clear at this stage, but the winger looks to be a player they have considered. It's unlikely we will see any further advances on this potential deal unless the Hassan deal becomes a no-go.
