A lot of players have achieved hero status at Celtic, especially in recent years, as the club have enjoyed unprecedented success. Many of those players have moved on since, continuing their careers elsewhere. But it is also interesting to keep an eye on them and how things go beyond Parkhead.

Lately, we have seen many high-profile players struggle after leaving Celtic. Jota returned to Parkhead after just 18 months. Kyogo, Matt O'Riley and Odsonne Edouard could all need to change teams this summer.

One player who went on to have a decent career after leaving Celtic is Stuart Armstrong. After winning eight trophies at Parkhead, the midfielder decided it was time for a change of scenery. He spent the next six seasons at Southampton, five of them in the Championship.

Things have been less than satisfactory for Armstrong since leaving Southampton though. He had a short stint at Vancouver Whitecaps before returning to English football and joining Sheffield Wednesday. This summer, he finds himself as a free agent.

As reported by The Sun, Wrexham are interested in Armstrong. He was one of seven players released by Sheffield Wednesday last month.

Still just 33 years of age, Armstrong should have a decent bit of football left in the tank. Following a meteoric rise, Wrexham will be looking to establish themselves in the Championship and eventually make it to the Premier League.

To make that happen, they will need proven top-level professionals like Armstrong. Signing him as a free agent would have to be considered a major coup for the club. Let's see if they can pull it off.

Of course, Celtic fans will always wish Armstrong the best, wherever he goes. For a while, there had been speculation about a potential return to Parkhead but it looks like that ship might have sailed for the midfielder.
