In recent times, we have seen many Celtic players struggle after leaving the club. It does not take them long to realise that the grass is not greener on the other side of Parkhead. Some choose to return, like Jota and Kieran Tierney. On the other hand, others are linked, like Kyogo Furuhashi and Odsonne Edouard, although the moves seem unlikely.
One Celtic hero who did not really struggle after leaving the club though is Stuart Armstrong. He moved to Southampton and went on to have a solid career, making over 200 appearances for the English club.
After six seasons there, he decided to leave and make a move to the MLS. That is a path many have followed in the twilight of their playing careers.
What Armstrong did that not many have though is make a return to England after making just 10 appearances in the MLS. He joined Sheffield Wednesday in late January. And now, he finds himself without a club again.
Celtic hero quietly released after just three months
In an official announcement on their website, Sheffield Wednesday have announced that Armstrong is one of the players to have been released at the expiry of his current contract. He spent a little over three months with the club.
Where will football that Armstrong next? We shall find out very soon. He is a free agent once again and one would imagine that teams will be interested in signing the veteran.
One can also expect Celtic to be linked with a move for the club hero. Do they need him at this point though? Veterans coming in as free agents have worked for the Hoops in recent years though. Aaron Mooy and Kasper Schmeichel are great examples of that. Will Armstrong be the next name on that list? Your guess is as good as ours at this moment.
