It would be safe to say that Celtic are miles ahead of any other team in Scottish football and have been for years. This season. another treble seems to be on the cards for the Hoops. They have already won the League Cup, are 16 points ahead in the Premiership title race and considered favourites to win the Scottish Cup as well although the upcoming quarter-final game against in-form Hibernian might be a tough one.

On the other hand, the Rangers look set for another trophyless campaign. They have also sacked their manager for the third consecutive season, this time replacing Philippe Clement with Barry Ferguson as interim head coach.

The Rangers fans' big hope right now seems to be a potential takeover. But even if that goes through, will that automatically make them competitive with Celtic?

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Neil Lennon told BBC Sport Scotland:

"It’s a chasm. Everyone talks about a rebuild. For me, it’s a change of culture and psychology, really, more than anything else.

“I think they’ve got some good players there, but obviously the psychology of the team isn’t right. They do well when they are not expected to do well, and when they are expected, to win games, they can’t do it.

“So that needs to change. And I think they have to get things right domestically first and foremost before they think about anything else because if they go out to Fenerbache in the Europa League, the season’s done, you know, and we’re only in March."

That is a problem that the Rangers have had for quite some time. They fail to deliver when the pressure is on.

Let's take a recent example. When Hibernian defeated Celtic at Easter Road, the Rangers had a chance to close down the gap a bit. But they lost to St Mirren, and at Ibrox on top of that.

Last weekend, the Rangers lost to Motherwell. And when provided with the opportunity to go 16 points clear, Celtic made no mistake and got past a tough St Mirren side away at Paisley. That is the difference.

It looks like the Rangers' takeover is going to go through before the start of the 25/26 season. But its impact might not be as significant as some of their fans are hoping for. And even if it is, Celtic are in a position to take on that challenge as well.
