It has been the same story for the Rangers for years now. When the pressure is on, they seem to wilt. That has happened time after time and it might be worth pointing out that their only league title came when there were no fans in the stands. With both Celtic and Aberdeen dropping points this weekend, drawing with each other, the onus was on Philippe Clement's side to go out and get a win, to decrease the gap at the top of the table.

Instead, the Rangers lost 1-0 away to Kilmarnock. A 87th minute goal from Marley Watkins was enough to defeat Clement's side.

It goes without saying that the pressure is now well and truly on for Clement. He might have been handed a four-year contract not too long ago but when the fans start to turn, there is no going back for any manager. One could argue that Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Mick Beale did a much better job than he has so far.

A lot of Celtic fans would have been waiting for Chris Sutton's reaction to the result. While he has reacted, he was not at his cheeky self for a change, just congratulating Kilmarnock and stating the facts.

Of course, Sutton's reaction will be the last thing on Clement's mind right now. He has a real worry on his hands.

Aberdeen gave Celtic a much tougher time at Parkhead this weekend than the Rangers have been able to for more than three years. And if the Dons can continue performing like this throughout the season, which is doubtful but not impossible, then the Ibrox club might have trouble even finishing second.

Of course, it is too early into the season to be thinking that far ahead. But for now, it is not a happy time to be a Rangers fan.
