It would be safe to say that Celtic had a poor showing this weekend. But when it mattered, they found a way to get a result and stay within touching distance of Hearts, who maintain a two-point gap. Daizen Maeda, who has been on the end of heavy criticism, scored a late winner. Hopefully, he will kick on from here and rediscover his best. On the other hand, the Rangers are neither playing well nor getting results, as one has to wonder how much more time Russell Martin will get to get things right.
It surely can't be long. His start to life as Rangers manager has been an absolute nightmare and if he is sacked right now, he might go down as the worst in the Ibrox club's history. He would most certainly be in the conversation.
Their latest setback came in the form of a draw at the hands of Falkirk. Bojan Miovski had put them ahead only for the home team to equalise in the second half and the Rangers could find a way to score another.
Whenever the Rangers endure a negative result, Celtic fans look forward to what Chris Sutton has to say. The club hero did not disappoint with a brief yet hilarious review of the result. He said:
"Good point for Rangers…"
Celtic hero Chris Sutton's immediate reaction as Rangers drop points again
Well, anything other than a defeat seems like a good result for the Rangers nowadays. Of course, Celtic fans would enjoying the campaign a lot more right now if Brendan Rodgers' side had been in better form.
Celtic's own performances have left the supporters worried, as they have shown no signs of improvement. At least the comeback victory against Motherwell was a sign of character.
Perhaps we cannot expect great results from this team until some further additions are made. We will have to wait at least three more months for them to happen but to be honest, there is no guarantee that the board will go out and spend big in the winter transfer window.
