It is safe to say that Celtic fans always like to keep an eye out for their former players, even after they have said goodbye to the game and stepped into the dugout. Quite a few of them have stepped into management in recent years and it remains to be seen if any of them reach the level required to manage at Parkhead one day.

That is perhaps somewhat unlikely but not impossible at all. There have been a few former Celtic players who have gone on to manage the club over the years. Who could be next?

One Celtic hero seems to be on the verge of being handed the biggest job of his managerial career so far. He is set to become the manager of Sampdoria, the former Serie A champions who now find themselves in the second division and are looking to return to their glory days.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Sampdoria have chosen Massimo Donati, a former player of the club, as their head coach for next season. The official announcement is expected soon.

Donati did not spend a long time playing for Celtic but it was enough to establish himself as a fan favourite. His best moment in the green and white shirt was surely scoring a winner against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

Since leaving Celtic, Donati has called it one of the biggest regrets of his career. He also has the club's badge tattooed on his chest, which means that the fans remember him fondly.

Let's see how things go for him in Italy as he looks to help Sampdoria return to their former glory. It is worth mentioning that he spent time playing for them as well.

So far, Donati has not had a managerial career worth writing home about. He has managed Sambenedettese, Legnago Salus, and Athens Kallithea.

The most well-known of those is Athens Kallithea. They play in the Greek second division and are mostly popular for their fashionable kits, in the same vein as Venezia.
