Celtic were heavily linked with a move for Tyrell Malacia of Manchester United in the January transfer window. Alex Valle's loan spell from FC Barcelona was unexpectedly coming to an end, as he was headed to Como FC, a journey Nicolas Kuhn will make this summer. And that meant that the Hoops were in need of a left-back.
Malacia was available on loan but ultimately, he ended up joining PSV Eindhoven. On the other hand, Celtic brought in Jeffrey Schlupp from Crystal Palace on a temporary basis until the end of the season.
Malacia would spend the rest of the season at PSV. But the Eredivisie side have passed up on the chance to sign him on a permanent basis, and the Manchester United left-back is available once again this summer.
As reported by The Athletic, Manchester United are struggling to drum up suitors for Malacia. Despite ending the campaign as an Eredivisie winner at PSV, there is no firm interest in signing the Dutch international this summer.
Celtic handed Tyrell Malacia transfer boost by Man Utd update
It remains to be seen if Celtic decide to revisit their interest in Malacia this summer. He played a role away on loan at PSV but was clearly not impressive enough for them to consider signing him on a permanent basis.
There is a belief that Manchester United could be willing to let him leave for a bargain fee this summer. So there might be a good opportunity around for Celtic to take up.
On the other hand, one has to question whether Celtic need to go after a high-profile name at left-back. At the end of the day, whoever comes in will be playing the role of cover option to Kieran Tierney, who has returned after spending six seasons at Arsenal, one of them out on loan at Real Sociedad.
