Well, here we are. The summer transfer window is over and it might have been the worst one in Celtic history. The club saw players like Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah leave for big transfer fees, received major sell-on fees as well and yet, their best signing was the arrival of Kieran Tierney as a free agent. And not only that, they were not able to sign a striker despite letting their only out-and-out centre forward to leave on deadline day.

It was so remarkable that it did not even make sense. And now, Celtic have to take a look at the free agent market and try to salvage the situation somehow.

It is easier said than done though. Kelechi Iheanacho is someone who they are believed to be in talks with right now. But it is a race against time to get the move done, even though the transfer window might already be over.

As reported by The Herald, Celtic will likely want to secure the signature of Iheanacho before the end of today. That is because the deadline for the club to submit their 25-man squad for the league phase of the Europa League is tonight at 11 pm. If the player isn't signed before then, he won't be able to be registered in time to feature in European competition.

Talks about Celtic trying to sign Iheanacho picked up in the last hour of the transfer window. And amazingly, minutes later, Sevilla announced that they had terminated his contract.

That allowed Celtic some extra time to get a deal over the line as Iheanacho was now a free agent. But still, they need to make sure that they do not allow this situation to drag on, like they have with signings all summer, which is the reason they find themselves here.

Iheanacho is not the type of striker that Celtic should have been looking to sign. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship and managed to score once in 15 appearances for the club.
