Manchester City have one of the best squads in world football right now. So, it is natural that there are a lot of good players who struggle to get into Pep Guardiola's team despite their undeniable quality. Just look at Cole Palmer's rise into a superstar since leaving the club. And Celtic are believed to have one of the Citizens' youngsters on their radar as well.
The player we are talking about is James McAtee. This is not the first time that Celtic have been linked with the midfielder.
Someone like McAtee would fit the profile of player that Celtic have signed on a consistent basis in recent years. However, signing him will not be an easy task for the Hoops.
As reported by Football Insider, Celtic will find it tough to compete with Premier League clubs for McAtee. The Hoops are keen on signing the 22-year-old but are likely to face competition from West Ham United, Fulham and Crystal Palace if he becomes available.
Celtic handed blow in race to sign Manchester City midfielder
It goes without saying that Celtic would not be able to keep up with Premier League clubs if it comes down to finances. As a result, they are already a step behind in any potential transfer race to sign McAtee from Manchester City.
That being said, Celtic can offer him the chance to compete for trophies and play at the Champions League level. The same cannot be said for clubs like West Ham United, Fulham and Crystal Palace.
McAtee is considered a major talent but he simply is not getting enough chances right now. It has also been suggested that Manchester City are not keen to part ways with him in January. But if the player did push for an exit, that would make things interesting.
