Celtic face fresh competition over a reported goalkeeper target this summer. The Bhoys find themselves in need of a keeper after losing Kasper Schmeichel to retirement, and they are yet to address the need.
There are other needs, too. Beyond the likelihood they will need to replace players like Arne Engels and Daizen Maeda, Celtic have just one out-and-out strikers on their books for next season as things stand.
The Bhoys are yet to sign a new player this summer, and one has to imagine Martin O'Neill is growing a little impatient, with pre-season now up and running.
Goalkeeper chase hots up
Celtic face an interesting choice when it comes to finding a new goalkeeper this summer. Do they go with a younger keeper who can stay in place for years to come, or do they once again turn to a veteran who can do a job in the short-to-medium term, as Schmeichel did.
When it comes to more senior options, former Arsenal and Levante goalkeeper Mat Ryan is the main name being floated. The Australian is looking for a new club after seeing his deal at Levante expire having helped keep the Granotas in LaLiga during the season just gone.
Ryan is now 34 years of age, but having done a job in the Spanish top flight last season, he would likely be a capable number one for the Bhoys for at least a year or two, especially given how long goalkeepers tend to play these days.
But Ryan has interest beyond Celtic, and according to Nieuwsblad,, Belgian side Club Brugge are now exploring a deal for Ryan. Brugge are also said to be considering Yann Sommer, who is leaving Inter Milan, and Nottingham Forest's Mat Selz.
Ryan previously played for Club Brugge, making 77 league appearances for the Belgian side between 2013 and 2015.
Meanwhile, Celtic are also being linked with other goalkeepers, with Hertha Berlin's Tjark Ernst and LKS Lodz goalkeeper Aleksander Bobek being linked.
Mat Ryan's career so far
Ryan has been almost everywhere during his career, spending time at 13 clubs so far, and he is still going. At many of those clubs, the goalkeeper was the number two, with his main spells as a number one coming at Central Coast Mariners, Club Brugge, Brighton, AZ and Levante.
He is also a 104-time Australian international, and he is currently at the World Cup serving as their number two. Australia have made it through to the Round of 32.
