Celtic have transfer needs aplenty this summer as Martin O'Neill looks to make sure his side get off to a fast start. Brendan Rodgers was hung out to dry by poor recruitment last summer, setting up a disappointing start to the season that saw Celtic go through two managers before they got to O'Neill.

The Bhoys are yet to get off the mark this summer, with no new faces in the building at the start of pre-season, which began on Friday morning. Celtic are going to have to catch up, and they are running out of time in some ways, with only a month to go until the start of the season, although the transfer window will rumble on beyond that.

Celtic need a goalkeeper

Celtic have a number of needs this summer, and the goalkeeper position is one they need to address. The Bhoys have lost Kasper Schmeichel to retirement, and while Viljami Sinisalo has filled in, he doesn't seem to be the likely number one for next season.

In any case, Celtic need another goalkeeper or two this summer, and along with the striker position, it is one of the positions the Bhoys should have the most urgency about this summer.

Bhoys linked with new keeper

According to reports in Germany, Celtic are now interested in a move for Hertha Berlin goalkeeper Tjark Ernst. The 23-year-old keeper made 37 appearances across all competitions last season, keeping 12 clean sheets.

Hertha finished seventh in 2.Bundesliga, but only two teams had better defensive records, which Ernst played a significant part in.

With the goalkeeper out of contract in 2027, so they could be forced to sell if they can't agree a new deal, which they are trying to do, according to Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung.

In the meantime, Celtic and Ajax are said to be trying to turn the goalkeeper's head. The Bhoys clearly have a goalkeeper need this summer, but they are also said to be considering LKS Lodz goalkeeper Aleksander Bobek, according to the Glasgow Times.

Ernst is currently valued at 4million euros, which is around £3.45million, and that value grew by 1.5million euros over the course of last season, according to Transfermarkt. The former Germany under-21s international is on an upwards trajectory, and still only 23 years of age, the fact he still has potential to reach will be attractive for clubs.

He may also be available on a slightly reduced deal, given he is heading into the final year of his deal.
