Celtic face further competition for one of their reported winger targets this summer. The Bhoys are going to have to strengthen a number of areas ahead of the new season after a mixed campaign that ended with two trophies.

Martin O'Neill oversaw a fine turnaround in the second half of last season, but while the first half of last season was not his doing, he will want to avoid such a rush to the title next term.

.Significant spending is expected, particularly in the wake of likely big-name exits like Arne Engels and Daizen Maeda, and tha attack is one of the areas in need of strengthening.

Winger competition ramps up

Celtic are on course to have just one striker for next season, highlighting the lack of depth they have at the top end of the pitch, And while there are more options out wide, Celtic do need to strengthen the flanks.

Motherwell's World Cup star Elijah Just has been linked, and the Bhoys have a long-term target in Fares Ghedjemis. Ghedjemis was the subject of interest in January, when the Bhoys made approaches only to be rejected at every turn.

Frosinone, who are in Serie B, played hardball, though a club chief has since suggested the winger wanted to stay and see out the club's promotion bid..

Celtic are still said to be interested, but in a fresh blow, Fussball Europa are reporting that Borussia Dortmund are now scouting the winger at the World Cup as he represents Algeria over the next few weeks.

That report comes after claims of interest from AS Monaco, Lazio, and Atalanta, while it has also been suggested Frosinone have already received approaches worth at least 15million euros (£12.9m). That would be an expensive winger signing for the Bhoys, but they may well have the resourses to pull it off this summer, given the exits hey are likely to sanction and pocket from.

Ghedjemis is coming off a season that saw him score 15 goals to help his side to promotion to Serie A, while he also provided three assists. The winger is still only 23 years of age, so you would think he has plenty of development still to come.

Algeria didn't stand much of a chance in their World Cup ofpener, losing 3-0 to current holders Argentina, but the winger should have chance to prove his ability against Jordan and Austria over the next couple of weeks.
