Brendan Rodgers left Auston Trusty out of the squad or on the bench for many games at the start of the campaign. It was only when Rodgers resigned, and Martin O'Neill took over, that the USMNT player began playing regularly.

Under O'Neill, Trusty has played 90 minutes in all of the interim Celtic manager's seven games in charge. This has been a successful time, with the Hoops winning all but one of these fixtures. Celtic are now just two points behind the Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts.

Hearts had looked like the runaway leaders for the title this season. However, they have won just once in their last five games, which has enabled Celtic to catch up.

Celtic play Dundee in the Scottish Premiership this Wednesday, but are then set to have a new manager for their fixture with Hearts this Sunday. Wilfried Nancy of the Columbus Crew is set to be announced as the new Celtic manager ahead of the game.

O'Neill announced the news of Nancy's incoming on talkSPORT, saying, "He is the man that will be coming in. I thought it was over on Sunday, but there's some paperwork still to be dealt with. Wednesday will definitely be my final game."

Will Auston Trusty continue to play regularly under Wilfried Nancy?

Trusty has impressed under O'Neill, so you would expect that the centre-back will continue to play under Nancy. They are both products of MLS, since Nancy managed CF Montreal before making his name with the Columbus Crew. He won the MLS Cup and Leagues Cup with the Crew.

As for the defender, he came through the ranks of the Philadelphia Union before joining the Colorado Rapids. Arsenal and the Rapids share an ownership group in Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, and Trusty eventually made the move to the Gunners.

The centre-back did not get a chance with Arsenal, but was sent on loan to Birmingham City before joining Sheffield United permanently. He then made the move north of the border to Scotland with Celtic.

MLS is often dismissed as a retirement league in Europe, as many top players go there at the end of their careers. However, Nancy knows the talent that can be produced there. Celtic are no strangers to giving MLS players an opportunity, as they also have Alistair Johnston on their roster. Johnston even played under Nancy at Montreal.

Given Trusty's recent form, and the fact that Nancy will know of his talents very well, he will no doubt continue to play Celtic's new star defender.
