Celtic do seem to have been looking for a left-back during many of the past transfer windows. Many players have come and gone as the search continues for quality in that position. Greg Taylor has been there since joining from Kilmarnock in the summer of 2019. He arrived just after Kieran Tierney moved to Arsenal.

Now Taylor looks like he could be on his way out as his contract starts to draw to an end. There are also plenty of stories around about the possible return of Tierney in what would be a remarkable reversal of things from six summers ago.

Let's not forget also that Alex Valle, currently on loan from Barcelona, could be leaving too. Many reports suggest that a deal is ready to be finalised for a move to Italian side Como, possibly during this transfer window.

That leaves the left-back slot pretty much up in the air currently and you’d expect to hear news of at least one new player, if not more, arriving for the position despite not long being left in the winter window. Instead, the first deal confirmed in that position is an exit. It isn't a huge surprise though and has been on the cards for some time.

Alexandro Bernabei has now officially left the club and signed permanently for SC Internacional. He had been there on loan since March last year and the Brazilian side were keen to sign him up, which they have done. That has eventually all been confirmed by the two clubs.

Bernabei is one of several players brought in to challenge Taylor for the position. He is on a list including Valle, Diego Laxalt, and Boli Bolingoli in recent years. The last two were spectacular misfits for the side. On the other hand, the Argentine didn't really fit into Scottish football either despite his success in Brazil this year.

Valle has been the closest we’ve seen to a serious contender for some time. Now, we’ll have to wait to see how things unfold in this window and in the summer for the position. For now, though it looks like Taylor for the rest of the season although the possibility of Tierney arriving this winter cannot be ruled out.
