It looks like all the obstacles are now out of the way and Celtic are going to be appointing their new permanent manager. They have had to wait a few weeks after Brendan Rodgers decided to quit in the middle of the season, having seen his side fall eight points behind Hearts. Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney have steadied the ship, and cut down that deficit. Now, it will be up to the French manager to carry the baton.
Of course, bringing in Nancy is a decision that is not everybody's cup of tea. He does not have any experience managing in Europe, let alone at a club where he would be expected to win every game he takes part in.
Then again, it is important to give every manager a chance to show what they are capable of before reaching any judgment about their qualities. And we are certain that most Celtic fans will do that with Nancy, although the Frenchman is going to be under pressure to deliver quickly as the Hoops do not have the luxury to drop points in a title race where they are already trailing.
When will the appointment be made? As reported by Pete O'Rourke, Celtic have agreed a deal with Columbus Crew and Nancy to join the club. The Frenchman is set to be joined by Kwame Ampadu, his number two. His first game in charge is set to be next Wednesday, December 3rd, at home vs Dundee.
Celtic finally agree Wilfried Nancy deal and first game revealed
Well, any new appointment comes with its fair share of risk. That is only magnified when the manager is not experienced or proven, which is the case with Nancy in European football.
So, it will be very important that Nancy starts well. Otherwise, it would not take long for things to go south.
Just look at Russell Martin's 123-day run at Ibrox. You are never going to get a ton of time to get it right in Glasgow. So, it is important to get out of the gates as quick as possible.
