Celtic have missed out on the Champions League this season, having failed to get past Kairat in the qualifiers. That result is one of the biggest reasons why the supporters are unhappy with the board, as the Hoops failed to strengthen the squad in time despite having weeks to do so. Right now, all the supporters can do when it comes to Europe's elite competition is look from the outside.
There are a few headlines which would have caught the attention of the supporters this week, as the Champions League kicked off. One of them has to do with a familiar name, or surname at least.
FC Copenhagen managed to draw 2-2 against Bayer Leverkusen. Jordan Larsson was on the scoresheet on the night.
This was his first goal in the Champions League. Incidentally, it came exactly 24 years after his legendary father and Celtic icon, Henrik Larsson, had scored in the competition for the first time.
Celtic fans will love what Thierry Henry said live on air
That fact was brought up on CBS. While covering the game, Kate Abdo said (via Daily Record):
"Jordan Larsson scored his first ever Champions League goal, 24 years to the day after his father's first Champions League goal for Celtic."
Thierry Henry was also present in the studio and he brought up Henrik, as he said:
"His dad was some player by the way."
Henry will know first-hand how great of a player Larsson was. He was the captain of the Arsenal team that faced Barcelona in the final of the Champions League a couple of decades back.
Arsenal had led until the 76th minute. But then Larsson made the difference for Barcelona. He was brought on at around the hour mark for Mark van Bommel and provided two assists to turn the game around as Barca won 2-1.
It is safe to say that Celtic fans will be happy to see Larsson get his credit from someone as great as Henry. The Frenchman might have come up short on that occasion but he did win the Champions League a few years later, after he joined Barcelona.
At the same time, it is good to see Jordan doing well. In the past, he has been linked with Celtic a few times but a move never materialised. For a while, it had looked like his career was headed nowhere but he has found his footing after joining FC Copenhagen and is a key player for the Danish champions.
