There finally seems to be some positivity amongst Celtic fans after more than a week, and it is courtesy of the Rangers. This weekend, their 'undefeated' start to the league season under the management of Russell Martin came to an end. They lost 2-0 to Hearts at Ibrox. The result leaves them with four points after the first five games of the campaign, which is enough for them to be 10th in the Scottish Premiership table.

It would be safe to say that not even the most pessimistic Rangers fan would have predicted things to go this badly for Martin. It is merely mid-September and his sacking feels inevitable already. That is how bad the start to the season has been.

Of course, new managers take some time to ring in their ideas. But there needs to be improvement over time to convince the supporters. For the Rangers, it looks like things are heading in the opposite direction.

Even Kris Boyd admitted that he would have left early if he had been paying to watch the Rangers in action. He said on Sky Sports:

"I don't know if the Rangers hierarchy were at the game today, but once the fans turn it's virtually impossible to get them back round. They've had enough. A lot of them left their seats early and no wonder, because if I was paying to watch that, I'd have been away as well."

The issue for the Rangers is that this is becoming a never-ending cycle for them. Bringing in and then sacking managers, one after another, without any improvement in results.

In each of the previous three seasons, they have sacked a manager. And there is no doubt that Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Mick Beale and Philippe Clement had been doing a much better job as the Rangers' boss.

Of course, the result opens up the chance for Celtic to go nine points ahead of the Rangers after just five matchdays. How often has that happened in Scottish football? In fact, that might have never happened in mid-September before.
