It is official, Nicolas Kuhn is no longer a Celtic player. Como FC have announced the signing of the German winger on a deal until the summer of 2029. The Italian Seria A club, currently managed by Cesc Fabregas, have shown a ton of ambition this summer as they look to challenge for trophies. The €19m move for the 25-year-old is the latest sign of that.
It was merely 18 months ago that Celtic had signed Kuhn from Rapid Vienna. It took him some time to find his feet in Glasgow but once he did, he was exceptional.
Kuhn was Celtic's best player, and by far, in the first half of the 24/25 season. It was not just about his goals and assists but the timing of them as well. He scored a brace against RB Leipzig, his former club that also tried to sign him this summer, and a goal against Bayern Munich away at Allianz Arena in the Champions League. He also found the back of the net against the Rangers in the Scottish League Cup final.
Kuhn leaves Celtic, and there is a void that the Hoops will need to fill. At the same time, the fans won't like something he said during his first interview as a Como player.
Celtic fans won't like what Nicolas Kuhn said as Como move announced
As reported by Como's official website, Kuhn said while talking about his decision to join the Italian club this summer:
"The decision was easy: the project is ambitious, and I want to be part of it, doing my best to help the team grow and achieve increasingly important goals."
The last thing Celtic fans will want to see is the decision to leave the club described as 'easy'. That will not go down well with a lot of supporters, that is for sure.
We can only wish Kuhn the best of luck in his new journey and hope that he does well in Italy. On the other hand, Celtic need to do a good job of finding a replacement for him as soon as possible.
