Celtic will need to look for a result against Bayern Munich this week at Parkhead in the first leg of their Champions League knockout phase tie before heading to the Allianz Arena next week. The Hoops have had mixed fortunes against German clubs so far this season. They suffered a heavy 7-1 defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund away at Signal Iduna Park but then won 3-1 vs RB Leipzig at home.

It remains to be seen how they perform against Bayern Munich. The Bavarians are the best out of these three teams, that is for sure.

Vincent Kompany is currently the manager of Bayern Munich. He has experience of playing at Celtic Park though. And it was something that he clearly enjoyed.

As reported by EUROSPORT, the Bayern Munich manager said when talking about playing for Anderlecht as a 17-year-old at Celtic Park:

"Special. The atmosphere, the psychology of the players that you're playing against being very different from what they were away from home.

"It's something that gives you a massive boost of experience for a young player in the moment. I think later in my career I found out you can enjoy these games as well. they're the ones you're looking forward to."

Celtic fans will love to hear such praise from someone like Kompany, who is one of the best defenders in Premier League history and is now managing at the highest level of the game with Bayern Munich. But when the game comes around, they will need to push the team on and try to inspire them to victory against the German club.

The Parkhead atmosphere can certainly play a big factor when the two teams meet this week. The Hoops have enjoyed some big results at the stadium over the years. They have famous wins over the likes of FC Barcelona, Manchester United and AC Milan in the Champions League.

For now, the hope is that Celtic bring their A-game to Parkhead this week. If they are able to get a positive result, there will be expectations of making it to the next round heading into the second leg away at the Allianz Arena.
