A lot has been made of Celtic's 7-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund earlier in the season as they get ready to face Bayern Munich in the knockout phase of the Champions League. The first leg will be played at Parkhead in midweek before the Hoops travel to the Allianz Arena next week for the second game between the two teams.
It is worth pointing out that one player who did not feature for Celtic on that night at Signal Iduna Park was Cameron Carter-Vickers, And there were some fears leading up to the game against Bayern Munich that that could be the case once again this week.
Carter-Vickers had been completely absent from the matchday squad against Raith Rovers at the weekend. Unsurprisingly, some fans were left worried about his fitness situation as a result.
Carter-Vickers has dealt with his fair share of fitness issues over the past few seasons. But fortunately, there is nothing to be worried about going into the game against Bayern Munich at Parkhead.
Cameron Carter-Vickers news amid injury fears before Bayern Munich game
Brendan Rodgers has cleared up the situation around Carter-Vickers and his fitness. As reported by The Celtic Way, the manager said:
"Yeah, he's fit and available.
"We gave a few of the boys a bit of a rest at the weekend. So, he's fine."
Carter-Vickers is Celtic's most important defender by far. So, the news that he is fit and available for the game against Bayern Munich will be music to the ears of the supporters, heading into a matchup of this magnitude.
Celtic will need to be at their defensive best over both legs. That will not be easy to pull off as Bayern Munich have world-class talents like Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala and more. Players who can make things happen, at times out of nothing, in the final third of the pitch.
Celtic did show their ability to be resolute at the back against Atalanta earlier in the season. They will need to put in that type of defensive shift once again.
