Having seen Celtic win another league title and sit on the verge of a treble again, the Rangers are expected to make some changes in the summer. Of course, their impending takeover is what might allow them to make them. And one could take place in the managerial hot seat. Barry Ferguson is interim head coach right now and is unlikely to be handed the job on a permanent basis.
Celtic have Brendan Rodgers in the dugout. So, the Rangers might feel the need to bring in someone who is capable of competing with him over the course of an entire season. There are not many around who can do that, especially when you consider the lack of top managers willing to come to Scotland.
Interestingly, Jose Mourinho is someone who has the required track record and reputation. And he has been linked with the Rangers job lately.
Mourinho's career has been on a downward trajectory since his time at Manchester United. He followed that up with a failed stint at Tottenham Hotspur and a decent one at AS Roma. It is too early to judge how things are going at Fenerbahce. Could we see the Portuguese legend in the Ibrox hot seat next season?
Celtic fans will love Jose Mourinho news amid Rangers rumours
Well, it looks like the answer might be no to that question. Fenerbahce do not seem to be looking to make a change at the moment. As reported by the Daily Record, their club president said to the Turkish media:
"Who knows what will happen in the coming weeks. We are in favour of stability in terms of coaching and we do not want to start from scratch every year."
So, it does not look like an exit is on the cards for Mourinho. Fenerbahce are looking for stability in that position and the Rangers might need to look elsewhere in seach of their next manager.
We have seen a few other names being linked with the job in recent months as well. Steven Gerrard, Sean Dyche and Marco Rose are the three most notable. But none of them have the reputation of Mourinho.
