One of the major talking points going into the summer is the Rangers' managerial situation. Barry Ferguson will finish the season in interim charge but there is little chance that he will be handed the job on a permanent basis. While the Ibrox have ended up trophyless again, their fans might have to see Celtic complete their sixth treble in the last nine seasons.
They can only hope that a summer takeover helps them close down the gap with Celtic. One of the first things the new owners will need to do is identify the club's next manager.
It would be an understatement to say that the Rangers need to get this appointment right, having sacked three managers over the last three seasons. On the other hand, Celtic have had stability throughout and success has followed, first under Ange Postecoglou and now Brendan Rodgers.
Amid all this, there is an update on the Rangers' next manager search. And it is one that might not impress their fans.
Celtic fans love Fabrizio Romano's Rangers manager news
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Rangers have made contact with Davide Ancelotti as a candidate for the new head coach job. He is not the only one on the shortlist. More candidates have been approached by the Scottish club.
So, Romano has confirmed Rangers' interest in Ancelotti. Contrary to some reports in the Spanish media, it looks like the appointment is not done and dusted yet.
Of course, Ancelotti has enjoyed a decent bit of success over the course of his career as the assistant manager to his legendary father. But it would be safe to say that managing a club on his own would be a very different ball game. Celtic will surely not be scared if the Rangers bring in a rookie manager to take on Rodgers' winning machine, that is for certain.
