Celtic put in a disappointing performance against Hibernian, in what turned out to be a goalless draw. Of course, a display like this won't come as a surprise to anybody, considering how bad the summer transfer window was, and how little excitement there has been around this team for quite some time now. But even then, the standards need to be higher at Parkhead.
Most Celtic fans know that Brendan Rodgers has not been dealt the best hand. The club simply did not back him in the summer, perhaps a sign pointing towards him being on his way out at the end of this season.
As a result, most Celtic supporters are behind Rodgers under these circumstances and have overlooked a lot of shortcomings from the team in recent times. That being said, they will not agree with the manager's assessment of the game against Hibs.
As reported by CeltsAreHere, Rodgers said after the draw against Hibernian:
"I was happy with the performance. I think in every metric in the game we were dominant."
Celtic fans won't like what Brendan Rodgers said after draw vs Hibernian
Now, to be fair, Celtic were the better of the two teams on the day, there is no doubt about that. That being said, the standards need to be higher. The manager cannot be happy because the Hoops were better than Hibernian in a goalless draw. Creating chances is not good enough, you have to convert them.
That is just the reality of life at Celtic. Every domestic game that you play, you are expected to win. A draw is as good as a defeat in most cases. As one fan wrote after the match: "Repeat of his third season when he left. The longer he is at a club the more boring the football becomes."
Of course, Rodgers leaving Celtic at the end of the season would be a risk. The one thing he is is a proven winner. There are not many of those around in Scotland, just ask the Rangers, who change managers every year in search of one.
That being said, perhaps parting ways is the right step for both parties at this point. Things clearly have not gone as well as expected and both the club and the manager could do with a change of scenery. Until then, one can only hope that Rodgers is capable of squeezing another league title out of what he has.
