As we head towards the summer transfer window, the speculation is starting to grow around Celtic and its players. The Hoops have been linked with several players like Mathias Kvistgaarden, David Strelec, Kalidou Sidibe, Sondre Orjeseater and more. On the other hand, quite a few other suggestions have been made along the way as well, especially those who will be without a contract at the end of the season.
Celtic have enjoyed a very successful season once again and will complete a treble, their sixth in nine seasons, if they win at Hampden Park against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final. Naturally, a number of their players are believed to be drawing transfer interest.
The name on top of that list is that of Daizen Maeda. The Japanese international has scored 33 goals and provided 11 assists this season, his best campaign by a long distance.
The latest news surrounding Maeda is that clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal and more are interested in signing him. It has been suggested that he could be available for a fee in the region of £25 million, something that has left Celtic fans baffled.
Celtic fans left stunned by £25 million transfer news
One Celtic fan wrote: "Arteta wouldn't know what to do with him, that's not their style and as for Liverpool, Gakpo, Diaz, Jota, Jones and Nunez have proven they can win you the league playing there."
It is pretty clear that the club's supporters do not want to see Maeda leave. One wrote: "Will be the worst departure in over 20 years."
The general concensus seems to be that this is a move that won't happen: "Let's be honest, this is a non-story. Maeda doesn't really have the technical ability. He's been a phenomenon for us but he's not going to Arsenal or Liverpool. He might have a big move in him, but not to Arsenal or Liverpool.
Just stay here please."
There have been question marks about Maeda's technical ability since he arrived but he has improved in that regard. On the other hand, there is zero doubt about the physical side of his game.
Maeda has always been known for his ability to press the opposition defence throughout the 90 minutes. He has non-stop energy and plays with the same intensity throughout the course of the game. Any team on the planet could do with a player like that. Perhaps he would not be a success for Arsenal or Liverpool, but there are certainly other top teams that could suit him.
As for the transfer fee, it has to be higher than £25 million, which is the Scottish record. The aim has to be to always go a step further.
