The transfer window is moving at a rapid pace for Celtic. The fans have been left impressed by the kind of urgency that the club have shown over the past couple of weeks, completing plenty of signings already, while more are expected to arrive over the coming months. In fact, the next addition looks to be on the verge of completion.
One area where Celtic fans wanted to see the club improve is central defence. Since Carl Starfelt left for Celta Vigo in the summer of 2023, they have not managed to find a partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers in the heart of defence.
The good news is, Celtic are set to sign another centre-back. The somewhat worrying news is that there are question marks around the player's quality before he has kicked a ball for the Hoops. A lot of that has to do with the transfer fee.
As reported by Sky Sports, Hayato Inamura is on his way to London to complete a medical. Celtic have agreed a deal in the region of £250,000 for the Albirex Niigata centre-back.
Celtic fans left stunned by Sky Sports' transfer update on their next signing
Of course, considering the modern-day transfer market, fans are bound to question the decision to bring in someone available for a £250,000 fee. One wrote: "At face value, it's a really strange signing. Saying that, if Rodgers rates him higher than Welsh and Lagerbielke then it's an improvement in his options off the bench at least."
Others decided to go the sarcastic route. One fan said: "Really tooling up for champs league this year."
At the end of the day, it is wrong to rule anybody out before we have seen them play in a Celtic jersey. After all, Henrik Larsson was signed for £650,000.
That being said, it is hard to imagine that Inamura is being viewed as someone who will come straight into the starting XI for Celtic. And that is what they needed this summer. So, one has to question this signing for now.
Let's just hope that Inamura is able to prove all the doubters wrong. Celtic do have a great record recruiting from the J-League.
